CONTRACT LENGTH:                                                         

4 hours per day, 5 days per week.  Monday to Friday, from August 28, 2017 – June 22, 2017



Youth Support Worker (Crouch Neighbourhood Resource Centre Afterschool Program at Aberdeen Elementary School)


Description of duties

-planning and implementation of an after school/healthy development program for participants between the ages 8 and 11 years in the Hamilton Road Area of London

-plan, coordinate, and implement recreational, nutritional, and developmental activities that enhance social skills, life skills, educational skills, physical activity, and positive engagement

-help promote the program in the community

-assist with the recruitment of children participants and youth volunteers for the program

-help supervise daily programs to ensure safety of children, youth volunteers and staff

-recruit and train volunteers and Youth Leaders (grade 7 and 8 youth) as needed

-evaluate programs; maintain appropriate participation statistics, logs, reports, etc

-identify and address behaviours, needs assessments, referrals, and counseling techniques



The qualified candidate will: 

• Be a member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators; or

• Be a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers; or

• Have a diploma or degree, or is enrolled as a student in child and youth care or education; or

• Have a diploma or degree, or is enrolled as a student in recreation and leisure services; or

• Have a diploma or degree, or is enrolled as a student in social work, psychology, sociology, kinesiology with a focus/experience working with children and youth.


And additionally will:

- Have previous experience working with this age group

- Be sensitive to the needs of youth from a diverse, multi cultural, and high needs neighbourhood

- Be highly organized, with the ability to react appropriately to unexpected situations

- Have the ability to successfully facilitate a structured program with a focus on intentional youth development, healthy eating, and physical activity

- Have strong public relations skills required to promote activities and to recruit program participants as well as liaise with school faculty

- Have experience recruiting and training volunteers, and mentoring Youth Leaders

- Have the ability to work independently and be self directed

- Be able to maintain required reports (attendance, budget, daily logs, evaluation reports, etc.)

- Have valid CPR/First Aid, and clear Police records check for working with vulnerable population

-A second language such as Portuguese and/or experience working with First Nations people is an asset

-PMAB, Crisis intervention, crisis counseling, Coaches training or High Five would be an asset
