The Casual Education Assistant is responsible for the preparation and delivery of history based education programs and guided tours. The Casual Education Assistant is under the general supervision of the Education Coordinator.

- 8:50 am to 3:20 pm (Daily)
- From April 16th to June 29th – up to 30 hours per week, hours of work based on education and group tour bookings
Term: Casual, Seasonal, Weekends and Holiday Mondays may be required
Salary: Grade 2 $14.00
Reporting to: Education Coordinator
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Education Responsibilities
- Prepare and deliver on site, history based education programs, guided tours, outreach programming, and special education events
- Assist with administrative functions of education programming
- Demonstrate heritage crafts, trades, foodways and activities to visitors
- Perform physical daily program set up and clean up
- Ensure the safety of education program participants
- Assist with building and site cleaning and program maintenance for program areas
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Maintain a high level of customer service
2. Cross Departmental Responsibilities
- Interpret to visitors through the implementation of an approved plan of daily demonstrations and activities for public programming (domestic, foodways, agricultural and hands-on)
- Interpret to visitors during special events through demonstrations and activities
- Assist with public programming and special event set up and clean up
3. General Responsibilities
- Support Fanshawe Pioneer Village customer service initiatives
- Ensure the safety of visitors and staff and protect the site's resources
- Building cleaning and maintenance
- Other duties as assigned
- Graduate or current student of education, history, child studies, drama/arts, recreation or museum studies program
- Experience working with children
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent customer service and problem solving skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Must be able to work in an outdoor environment with various environmental and seasonal conditions
- Strong organizational abilities
- Ability to operate with a minimum of direct supervision
- Good working knowledge of the Ontario curriculum
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to wear historical costumes and adhere to guidelines with respect to
- jewellery, make-up and other forms of personal adornment required
- Experience in the museum sector an asset
- Fluency in French an asset
- Valid first aid and CPR certificates an asset
- Must be able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check
- Must have own transportation (Public transportation to the site is unavailable.)
