Summer Tea Animator



Reporting to the Executive Director, and liaising with the Heritage Site Coordinator, the Tea Animator supports Eldon House in its delivery of a Summer Tea Program onsite at London’s oldest home and heritage museum. Eldon House employs Summer Tea Animators, who work together with Organic Works and volunteers, to ensure patrons enjoy a pleasant Afternoon Tea experience.   



Key Objectives:

  • Checks in with the Heritage Site Coordinator (or designate) to open and close the Interpretive Centre at the start and finish of each shift.

  • Liaises with Organic Works staff to determine daily tea reservations.

  • Engage guests with activities on the lawn. (I.e. croquet, bubble making, gardens tours.)

  • Sets up tables and chairs on the lawn, if fine weather, and on the veranda, if raining. Along with Summer Gardens Assistant prepare fresh flowers for vases daily.

  • Maintains sanitary conditions in kitchen, including clean serving ware and linens.

  • Prepares afternoon tea consisting of warmed scones, jam, butter, cream, fruit and tea.

  • Welcomes visitors, confirms reservations, encourages House tours, promotes events, encourages sales of plants and souvenirs.

  • Greet guests in period wear as a historical animator using 20th century vernacular. (Scripts and training will be provided.)

  • Assist Organic Works staff in refilling tea, notification of seating’s, clean-up, etc. 

  • Tracks number of visitors served on provided sheets, whether reservation or drop-in.

  • Confirms the number of next day visitors, so appropriate set up is planned.

  • Launders tablecloths and linens used in the Tea Program on an as needed basis.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned. 




  • A full-time student returning to school in September 2017 with Canadian Citizenship.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.

  • Self-motivated with ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers.

  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Experience with serving is an asset.




This part-time position is a Canada Summer Jobs project funded through Service Canada and is part of the CUPE bargaining unit.  It is a 30 hour workweek, running 6 days a week (Tuesday through Sunday) between the hours 12:00 and 5:00 p.m. This summer position operates from June 27 to August 27, 2017, with initial orientation date preceding the first day of work.
