Pillar Nonprofit Network Public Policy 2017-18

Preamble: The following represents Pillar Nonprofit Network’s current focus in terms of proactive policy advocacy.

Our Board and Executive Director set public policy direction and priority areas. Our key policy priorities are sector-focused rather than issues-focused, and there will be occasions when other sector-focused priorities emerge.

LOCAL
Pillar Nonprofit Network (Pillar) provides a leadership role on sector-focused municipal public policy.

Diversity & Inclusion
Area of Focus: Diversity

Our Director of Diversity & Governance and our Training & Education Manager sit on the London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership - Inclusion and Civic Engagement Sub-Council.

Our Director of Diversity & Governance sits on the following committees:

  • Diverse Voices 4 Change Advisory Committee
  • Co-Chair Age Friendly London - Respect and Social Inclusion Task Force
  • Planning Committee - Life as a Refugee Conference
  • Steering Committee - Network for an Inclusive Community                                        

Economic Road Map
Areas of Focus: Social Enterprise & Social Finance, Cross-Sector Collaboration

Our Executive Director sits on the Economic Road Map Advisory Committee, Entrepreneur Support Network, Economic Road Map Action Group #1. 

Our Director of Innovation Works sits on the sub-committee for Communications for the Economic Road Map Action Group #1.

Our Director of Social Enterprise & Social Finance sits on the sub-committee of Education & Training for the Entrepreneur Support Network.

Social Enterprise Procurement
Area of Focus: Social Enterprise & Social Finance

Our Social Enterprise and Social Finance team, along with the Executive Director, are considering a social enterprise procurement strategy. 

Municipal Election 2018
Areas of Focus: Nonprofits, Cross-Sector Collaboration

A survey will be sent to candidates about their understanding and platform priorities related to the nonprofit sector, and a summary report will be distributed to our membership.

In the past, we have hosted a Mayor’s Candidate Meeting or All Candidate Meeting. It is being recommended that we do not host this moving forward, as making them constructive can be difficult.

Ontario Nonprofit Network
Area of Focus: Nonprofits, Social Enterprise & Social Finance

Pillar is a member and contributes in public policy advocacy with Ontario Nonprofit Network (ONN). Currently, Pillar’s Executive Director is the Secretary of ONN and is the incoming Vice-Chair. Ontario Social Economy Roundtable
Area of Focus: Social Enterprise & Social Finance

Pillar contributes and participates in public policy advocacy with Ontario Social Economy Roundtable (OSER) with a focus on social enterprises. Currently, the Director of Social Enterprise & Social Finance is on the OSER Committee. Pillar is a member of the Ontario Volunteer Centre Network, which has a mandate to influence public policy related to Volunteer Centres and volunteerism. Our Program & Event Manager at Pillar is our liaison with OVCN. For more information, visit http://www.ovcn.ca/.

Imagine Canada
Area of Focus: Nonprofits

Pillar is a member of Imagine Canada, which is engaged in federal and pan-Canadian public policy. Currently, Pillar’s Executive Director participates in key initiatives and is the liaison with Imagine Canada. Canadian Federation of Voluntary Sector Networks
Area of Focus: Nonprofits

National Impact Investing Practitioners Table (NIIP)
Area of Focus: Social Enterprise & Social Finance

Pillar is represented in a community of practice group of social finance funds. The mission of this networking is to share best practices, identify shared policy, legislative and regulatory priorities and to speak as a single, influential voice working to shape a strong, enabling environment for social finance in Canada.
